Smattering of boos for Nickelback at halftime show

Detroit football fans with a distaste for Nickelback spoke louder in cyberspace than they did in person.

There were just a smattering of boos when the Alberta rockers played the halftime show at the NFL game between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers on Thursday at Ford Field.

Earlier this month, a University of Michigan student launched an online petition hoping to pressure the Lions into punting Nickelback from the halftime show. A total of 55,616 people signed on at change.org.

Nickelback is also slated to play the halftime show at the 99th Grey Cup on Sunday in their adopted hometown of Vancouver. A similar online petition at change.org has far less support, with only 102 petitioners.

The oft-lambasted band took the latest criticism in stride, with the members even mocking themselves in a spoof video on the funnyordie.com.

On Monday, the band released its seventh album, Here and Now, to lukewarm reviews.
