In a nail-biting race, Walter Gray has upset Sharon Shepherd to be the newly elected mayor of Kelowna.
The two top contenders were head to head for the majority of the night as the 13 polling stations across the city counted their ballots.
Gray had been trailing Shepherd by a razor thin margin until votes were counted from the last polling station, when he emerged to trump her by just 421 votes.
Estimated turnout for the election was approximately 33%, up from about 19% in 2008.
The total number of votes cast was 29, 992.
Below are the numbers in the race for Kelowna’s next mayor:
Ken Chung: 749, 2.52%
Cal Condy: 1000, 3.37%
Walter Gray: 13995, 47.14%
Kim Ouellette: 370, 1.25%
Sharon Shepherd (incumbent): 13574, 45.72%
