EDMONTON – The seasonal parking ban on bus routes implemented by the council earlier this fall is now in effect, according to a news release from the city.

The ban comes after a large snowfall in Edmonton on Thursday.

Cars parked on roads where ‘Seasonal Parking Ban’ signs have been posted must be removed by 7:00 am on Friday, November 18th.

The signs are only posted on roads that are part of collector bus routes.

Vehicles that are not removed by 7:00 am are subject to tagging and towing.

“Crews will start plowing on main roads this afternoon with additional equipment starting tonight,” says Bob Dunford, Director of Roadway Maintenance, Transportation Services. “Although the parking ban may pose a temporary inconvenience, not having those vehicles in the way means that we are able to do the best job possible. The more efficiently we can plow the roads, the more quickly we will be able to lift the parking ban.

The parking ban will in effect until further notice.

The city will give 8 hours notice before implementing the ban.

Under the seasonal parking ban initially proposed to council, parking on bus routes would have been illegal from November to March, but the amended seasonal ban only restricts parking after a heavy snowfall.

Residents can sign up to be notified by email about seasonal parking bans.
