TORONTO – Former Toronto mayoral candidate Doug Ford is throwing his support behind MPP Christine Elliot to become Ontario’s new P.C. leader.
Ford hosted a reception for the widow of former finance minister Jim Flaherty on Thursday night.
Elliot says the endorsement by Ford, a former Toronto councillor, is a strong push for her campaign.
Doug Ford had considered running for the Tory leadership himself but announced in November he would not join the race to replace Tim Hudak, who resigned after the Liberals won a majority in the June 12 election.
His brother, former Toronto mayor and current city councillor Rob Ford, is supporting MPP Monte McNaughton to become the next leader of the provincial conservatives.
