KELOWNA – The City of Kelowna is considering allocating $50,000 to help owners of vandalized property to remove the unwanted graffiti. Tax payer dollars would be used to hire painters to cover graffiti sprayed on private property such as fences and buildings. The proposed funding idea will go before council on Thursday.
According to city documents, “The number of graffiti vandalism service requests being reported and the level of spending has not decreased. On average, between 6,000 and 7,000 graffiti requests are received per year (the second highest category of service requests in the city).”
The city already has a program in place that provides free paint to property owners if they wish to do the painting themselves.
