Cold weather alert extended in Toronto

TORONTO – An extreme cold weather alert has been extended in Toronto, as temperatures continued to plunge.

Dr. David McKeown, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, extended the alert on Saturday until further notice.

A statement from Toronto Public Health says that cold weather services continue to be available “in view of the ongoing threat to homeless people.”

These services include two 24-hour drop-in warming centres, additional shelter beds and increased street outreach.

Environment Canada hasn’t issued any weather alerts for Toronto on Saturday, but temperatures are expected to drop to -11 C.

Hamilton is also under an extreme cold weather alert for Saturday with a low of -13 C.
