The pile-up happened when several cars collided in the interstate’s eastbound lanes due to blowing snow, icy roads and extremely murky visibility.

Shortly after, drivers on the westbound lane also started crashing into each other.

The situation was made worst when several of the cars caught fire, including a truck carrying more than 18,000 kg of fireworks.

A hazardous materials team was sent to monitor the situation and evaluate possible toxicities as police investigate the accident.
