WATCH: Cop body cam captures moment traffic stop turns ugly

Dramatic footage from a lapel camera worn by an Albuquerque police officer was released Tuesday, showing what happened when a traffic stop turned violent.

At around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Officer Lou Golson pulled over a driver he suspected of drunk driving.

As Golson steps towards the vehicle, he shines his flashlight into the SUV and tells the driver to turn off his engine.

Suddenly, the driver fires four shots at the officer, wounding him in the leg and sending him to the ground.

The officer fires back eight rounds. None hit the suspect, who attempts to drive away. When the suspect’s SUV doesn’t start, he bolts on foot.

Golson calls for help into his radio dispatch, and two minutes later backup arrives.

“It hurts – stomach, leg…he’s gone,” Golson can be heard saying in the video. “Do you see any blood?” he asks.

Golson suffered a broken femur as a result of the shooting.

Police say that the suspect was caught Tuesday morning after a manhunt that lasted several days.
