Editors note: This story has been updated as more snow is expected in Saskatoon than originally forecast.
SASKATOON – A low-pressure area condensing into a cell by midday is the culprit for Friday’s atmospheric activity. Saskatoon sits on the fringe of the cell’s push and by the time the system passes, up to 10 centimetres of snow is expected to coat Saskatoon.

The area rolled in off the Pacific last night and, guided by the jet stream, will produce a solid and consistent snowfall through the region over the next 18 hours. Upwards of 15 cm of snow is forecast in the southeast, where snowfall warnings are in place, with 8-12 cm expected for much of southern Saskatchewan.
Wind speeds across the province keep a maximum sustained level in the mid-teens and consistently under 20 km/h, gusting closer to 25 km/h – the takeaway from this is that a consistent snow base with mild wind will translate to reasonable driving line of sight along major Saskatchewan highways, all conditions considered.
