HALIFAX – Several hundred people attended an annual tradition in Fredericton on New Year’s Day.

N.B. Lt.-Gov. Jocelyne Roy-Vienneau and her husband greeted attendees at the New Year’s Day Levee at Government House.

The centuries-old event is meant for residents to “rise up” to greet the New Year.

There was live music, and refreshments and baked goods were served to the guests at the reception.

“I come almost every year when I’m in town,” said attendee Constantine Tassaris.

“It’s a wonderful occasion to see people and greet the New year in a very extraordinary way.”

This is the first year Roy-Vienneau is hosting the event. She was installed in October and is the province’s 31st lieutenant-governor.
