Identity of man shot by Transit Police released by coroner

The BC Coroners Service has released the name of the man fatally shot by Metro Vancouver Transit Police in Surrey on Sunday.

Naverone Woods was shot in an incident with the Transit Police that happened around 8 a.m. on Dec. 28 in the Safeway store at 10355 King George Highway.

The 23-year-old was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital but later died of his injuries.

The BC Coroners Service and Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) are continuing their investigation of the incident.

The family of Woods has been notified of his death.
