HALIFAX – Cavendish Farms said sewing needles have been found in potatoes harvested this year.

In a statement, the company said the needles were discovered during the production of French fries at its New Annan plant in P.E.I. on Saturday and Sunday.

Production was temporarily halted while food safety protocols were followed but resumed several hours later.

The company said a recall has not been initiated because “the contaminated product has been quarantined and not left the plant site”.

The potatoes did not come from Linkletter Farms. Sewing needles were found last month in 10 potatoes originating from Linkletter Farms.

Cavendish Farms said it has notified RCMP and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
