Man charged with manslaughter in fatal Whyte Avenue assault

EDMONTON — A 19-year-old man has been charged following the death of a 24-year-old man this past weekend.

Police have charged Kyle Charles Ashton with manslaughter in connection with the fatal assault of Raad Hamza.

Hamza was found unconscious on the sidewalk outside The Billiard Club on 105 Street around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.

The 24-year-old’s death was ruled a homicide. The cause of his death was head trauma.

Police say the investigation is ongoing. This is Edmonton’s 27th homicide of 2014.
