Man escapes unlawful confinement when captor stops for gas

SASKATOON – A 21-year-old man made his escape from a vehicle when his captor stopped for gas on Sunday, according to Saskatoon police. Two people are now facing charges after the victim was forced into a vehicle, beaten and robbed.

Investigators say the victim was riding in his vehicle at around 7 a.m. with a female acquaintance who was driving. Another vehicle cut them off and the man was forced inside the suspect vehicle and driven around for the next few hours.

During his unlawful confinement, the man was assaulted and his phone and cash were stolen. He escaped when the suspect stopped for fuel and then sought help at a home on 11th Street West.

The victim’s vehicle was later found at a farm west of the city.

Police believe the woman took part in the crime and two suspects were brought into custody.

A 24-year-old man is now charged with robbery, unlawful confinement, assault, uttering threats and breach of recognizance. The 21-year-old woman is charged with being party to the offence of unlawful confinement and being party to the offence of robbery.

Both appeared in provincial court Monday morning.
