WINNIPEG – Two men are in custody after allegedly selling wild elk meat.
Natural Resource Officers had been conducting a year-long investigation about the illegal meat. With the help of the RCMP, two men were arrested.
Portage la Prairie RCMP say that Brian Hofer and Merry Meeches are facing charges of selling wild animal meat illegally from a truck.
The maximum penalty for selling big game meat is $50,000 and/or 12 months in jail. The car that was used to transport the meat may also be seized.
Both men were arrested without incident and will appear in Portage Provincial Court in February.
