Search for man whose boat overturned near Mayne Island ends

UPDATE: RCMP Divers have located the body of the person who went missing. The body was found on the bottom of the ocean close to the spot where teh rowboat capsized. Investigators do not believe foul play was involved.

After two days of investigation, an extensive search for a man who went missing after his boat overturned has concluded without a resolution.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was one of two men on a 10-foot double rower rowboat heading from Saturna Island to Mayne Island late at night on December 12. The boat overturned, but one of the men was able to swim to Mayne Island and contacted the Coast Guard on the morning of December 13.

Coast Guard RCMP officers and volunteers extensively searched the area around Mayne Island by land, air and boat, but have been unable to find the missing man.

He is in his early 20s with blonde hair and a slim build, and was last seen in a white T-shirt with blue jeans.
