Fashion and celebrities bring water and education to Africa

Vancouver based luxury fashion brand Obakki
may be known in fashion circles as an effortless chic fashion brand, but in
other circles the name-Obakki-is synonymous with bringing clean drinking water
and education to regions of South Sudan through the Obakki Foundation.

“We recently traveled to South Sudan
to see a country and people destroyed after 40 years of civil war,” says Obakki
owner Treana Peake. “Over 2 million people have been killed while another 4
million are displaced, leaving behind a country of women and young men with
fractured hope for their futures.”

Founded in 2009, the non-profit organization strives to make a change in
developing areas of the world by using celebrity power to make a difference.

“After only 7 days on the ground, we became committed to these people for
life,” Peake says. “Within 3 months of our return to Canada, we drilled over
100 wells, bringing clean water to over 100,000 people. This upcoming dry
season we have committed to drill 200 more.”

From November 1 until November 14, 2011, The
Rainmaker Auction
will include signed items from internationally
renowned names like Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Beyonce, Garth Brooke,
Tiger Woods, Nickelback, Carrie Underwood, and Ozzy Osbourne. Items will be up
for auction on eBay and new
pieces will be added each day over the two-week period.

The foundation hopes to raise $200,000 to fund the drilling of those 200 water
wells in South Sudan in Africa this December, where 100 per cent of all the
funds raised from the auction will go directly to fund projects.

The ObakkiFoundation also raises funds to improve health, education and basic needs
in disadvantaged areas of Africa through the sales of screen-printed t-shirts,
scarves, totes and a coffee table book of art and words from children living in
Cameroon, Africa. The non-profit organization prides itself on having 100% of
all proceeds going directly to needy communities.
