Suspect charged in downtown Edmonton shooting

EDMONTON – A 21-year-old faces 28 charges including attempted murder in connection with a shooting in downtown Edmonton.

At about 12:10 a.m. on Thursday, officers were called to the area of 105 Ave. west of 101 St., where a man was found with a gunshot wound. The 32-year-old was rushed to hospital in serious condition.

After interviewing several witnesses and reviewing surveillance video, police arrested Ronald Alexander Giroux-Belcourt Thursday afternoon.

Officers say they found a concealed, loaded gun on him during their arrest.

Giroux-Belcourt’s charges include:

  • attempted murder
  • aggravated assault
  • discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life
  • possessing an offensive weapon dangerous to public and
  • carrying a concealed weapon
