This day in history: Master illusionist Harry Houdini dies

On this day in history, October 31, 1926, magician Harry Houdini died in Detroit at 52 of gangrene and peritonitis resulting from a ruptured spleen. He had been punched in the stomach during a demonstration at a performance in Montreal 10 days earlier.

Houdini, born Ehrich Weiss in Hungary in 1874 but raised in Wisconsin
from the age of four, gained international renown by the 1920s for his
daring escapes and feats of magic.
