TORONTO — Will Smith, Jared Leto and Tom Hardy will be in Toronto next year to make Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. announced Tuesday.
Also signed on for the film are Jai Courtney, Margot Robbie and Cara Delevingne.
Global News reported last month that the movie would be shot in Canada’s largest city with David Ayer (Fury) as director.
The Suicide Squad characters, which first appeared in DC Comics in 1959, are super villains tasked with carrying out dangerous missions for the U.S. government in exchange for reduced prison sentences.
The studio said Smith will play Batman villain Deadshot, Hardy will play Squad leader Rick Flagg, and Leto will play the Joker.
Courtney will be Boomerang, Robbie will play the Joker’s girlfriend Harley Quinn and Delevingne will be a sorceress named Enchantress.
The big-budget Suicide Squad — which has a working title of Bravo 14 — will be filmed from mid-April to the end of August at Pinewood Toronto Studios and at various locations around the city.
The movie is scheduled to open in cinemas on Aug. 5, 2016.
