VANCOUVER – Border waits are growing longer this morning as people are heading to the U.S. to cash in on some Black Friday deals.
It is not as busy as previous years, which could be because the Canadian dollar is only at 88 cents right now, but some are still heading south to check out what bargains are available.
Current border wait times are about two hours at the Peach Arch, one hour at the Pacific Highway and 15 minutes at Sumas. The Aldergrove border crossing opens at 8 a.m.
Some Canadians have stayed north of the border however. Many B.C. stores opened up their doors early to crowds of about a dozen or so people outside Best Buy, Future Shop and Target.
Stores are trying to offer deep discounts to shoppers to keep them north of the border and spending money in Canada.
Global News spoke to many shoppers this morning who said this was their first time staying in B.C. for Black Friday and not heading to the U.S.
