“Grinchy” thieves steal church Christmas tree

The Grinch has struck early this year in Southey.

Police are investigating after someone broke into a service station compound, and stole an eight foot Christmas tree that had been set aside for the local Lutheran Church.

It happened over the Thursday lunch hour at the Loon Creek Service Station, when there were less staff to monitor the fuel pumps and counter area.

The business stores a variety of equipment and supplies in the compound during the winter. Being a month before Christmas, the building was well stocked with Christmas trees. Specific trees had been set aside for businesses and local non-profit groups.

The thieves did not steal anything else, and managed to escape undetected.

RCMP are asking for the public’s help to solve this crime.

Southey is about 58 kilometres north of Regina.
