KELOWNA — Chances are you were late for work or school this morning but at least you have a good excuse.
The Okanagan has been blanketed with a major snowfall with at least 10 centimetres in downtown Kelowna and much more at higher elevations.
Many of the roads in Kelowna are not plowed and there are several accidents, too many to count.

There are also several reported power outages in the area. More than 4,000 residents are without power in the Okanagan and Kootenays.
An estimated 1,400 residences in Princeton are without power. FortisBC crews are assessing, but have no estimated time on when power will be restored.

There are also closures on some major highways.
Highway 97C — the Okanagan Connector — is closed east of Logan Lake because of an accident. And Highway 5A is closed in both directions between Princeton and Aspen Grove because of a high avalanche hazard. Click here for the latest updates from DriveBC.
Power was out to multiple SD23 schools, but has been restored to all but Peachland Elementary.

There’s so much snow, that Big White has announced that it’s opening Saturday morning.
“Saturday morning 8:45am with the Ridge Rocket express lift, Plaza quad chair, 2 Magic Carpets, 8 passenger Gondola, limited runs and early season conditions. Canada’s highest outdoor skating rink will also be open,” says Michael J. Ballingall.
