A new development could affect whether controversial ride-sharing service Uber is allowed in Metro Vancouver.

For months, Vancouver’s taxi industry has been fearing the set-up of Uber in Vancouver.

“Currently, the four Vancouver companies have filed a lawsuit against Vancouver even though they have not started yet,” says Carolyn Bauer of the Vancouver Taxi Association.

Torontonians have had the Uber experience for years. In Toronto, it’s often cheaper than cabs,unless it’s rush hour, game time, or a snow storm.

Today, the City of Toronto filed a lawsuit demanding Ontario’s Superior Court issue an injunction to stop Uber from operating there.

Vancouver is leaving any lawsuits up to the cab companies themselves.

The taxi companies emphasize their investment in service to the physically challenged, and safety.

In Vancouver, Uber may not be facing a government lawsuit just yet but it has promised to crack down with an undercover investigation on any Uber drivers.
