Questions raised over voting process in Vancouver’s civic election

VANCOUVER – Questions are being raised about whether City of Vancouver staff handled the actual voting process properly Saturday night.

This is the first year voters were allowed to cast their ballots at any polling station in the city, not just the one nearest to them.

There were reportedly at least four places that ran out of ballots, causing delays as staff scrambled to bring more over.

Critics wonder if the setbacks prevented people from voting, as lineups at some stations were reportedly more than half an hour long.

Voter turnout in Vancouver was up compared to last time around, jumping from 35 per cent to 44 per cent.
