CALGARY – Crews are working to clean up after a water main break along Southland Drive.
Water started covering the southwest road just after 4:30 a.m. on Friday.
Crews have closed westbound Southland Drive just past Macleod Trail, between Southland Drive S.W. and Horton/Southport Road S.W.
The City of Calgary’s Water Services is trying to determine what the issue is, and whether or not they’ll have to excavate the pipe.
Elbow Drive has also been reduced to one lane in each direction between 58 Avenue S.W. and Bel Aire Drive.

Police had also closed the exit from eastbound Southland Drive S.W. onto Southport Road S.W., but it has since been reopened.
The city hopes to ease an evening rush hour logjam in the area by changing the timing of traffic signals and rerouting vehicles.
It’s hoping everything will be back to normal by Monday but that depends on the extent of the damage workers find below ground.
Crews have been dealing with a series of water main breaks over the past few days, which may have been caused by the cold weather.
On Thursday evening, water began spewing along 7th Street and 4th Avenue S.W. due to a water main break.

Traffic in the area had already been diverted hours before due to a water main break during rush hour.
