Quebec man nabbed in Florida for sexual tourism

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Authorities in the United States say a Quebec man is accused of travelling to Florida to have sex with someone he thought was an underage boy.

Federal prosecutors say 47-year-old René Roberge is facing two charges that carry a mandatory minimum 10-year prison sentence and potentially life behind bars.

Roberge made his first court appearance Monday in Fort Lauderdale. Records did not yet list an attorney for him.

Authorities allege Roberge flew to Florida after making contact with undercover investigators posing on Internet networking sites as a 14-year-old boy and his father interested in arranging a sexual encounter.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents also allegedly found child pornography on Roberge’s tablet computer.

Roberge is currently jailed without bail.
