Black Friday and Cyber Monday are two major retail bargain days that have immigrated from the U.S. to Canada in recent years.
So has a less consumer focused day, and it’s one the City of Regina has made official this year.
After all that shopping, “Giving Tuesday” is dedicated to giving back to charities and non-profits through volunteering and donating. It comes immediately after Cyber Monday, falling on December 2nd this year.
This week, City Council has made it official. They’ve proclaimed “giving Tuesday” for December 2nd.
“We’re going up against Calgary, Guelph, a few other cities in Canada who have declared it in the past, and this year we’re the first to get out of the gate with this initiative,” said Christina Attard, with the Canadian Association of Gift Planners. “I’m very proud to put Saskatchewan on the map in that way.”
Giving Tuesday was first observed in Canada last year. More than 13,000 charities took part.
