On Tuesday, the Alberta government announced it’s partnering with Northlands, the CFR and Farmfair to allow those who buy daytime parking at Northlands during the event to leave their vehicle until noon the following day at no extra cost.

The intent of the initiative is to reduce drinking and driving by those who attend the rodeo.

“Despite the tragic consequences, some individuals continue to drink and drive. Albertans are encouraged to make responsible choices and it’s an easy decision that can save your life or someone else’s life,” said Wayne Drysdale, Minister of Transportation.

The slogans of the initiative are “keep your ride hitched in our stable tonight” and “leave your trusty steed where it will be safe.”
