WATCH: Salmon Arm fundraiser also a teaching tool

SALMON ARM – Students of all ages took part in an eye-opening fundraiser this week in Salmon Arm.

The second annual Water Walk saw kids from several schools converge on South Broadview Elementary.

Students lugged pales of water from a local pond to fill large containers outside the school.

“It is a real eye-opener for a lot of kids to see that there [are] lots of people in the world who don’t have clean water,” says teacher Janu Smith.

Students are collecting pledges with the goal of building a well in Asemkow, Ghana.

“It is kind of a simulation of what a lot of people in this African village have to do every day,” says Smith.

The money raised will go into a fund that supports Asemkow and local projects.
