TORONTO – Spring was in full bloom in Matthew Gallagher’s latest collection, as the season of renewal inspired his new line of ladylike looks.

“In the spring, everything comes back to life and is beautiful again,” Gallagher said backstage following his show at Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week on Thursday.

“I was doing before more fitted silhouettes,” he added. “It was also a new beginning for me to try different things that I haven’t done before and to experiment with fabrics and mixing things together, different shapes.”

There were literal interpretations of the spring theme with the floral accents which adorned the designs, along with punctuations of powder pink and baby blue — pastel hues that are commonly connected to the styles of the season.

The collection was also a decided study in contrasts in its teaming of dark and light shades. Gallagher set out to celebrate femininity in his new range which came to the fore in an expansive array of styles spanning from full skirts and floor-skimming dresses to draped dresses and flirty tiered minis.
