MONTREAL – Nearly, six kilograms of an illegal substance was seized from the suitcases of two travelers at Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau airport on Sunday, October 5.
The suspected drugs – most likely cocaine, according to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) – were concealed in the false-bottom of the travelers’ suitcases.
“Our border services officers’ vigilance, excellent intuition and experience are Canada’s first line of defence against narcotics smuggling,” said Benoît Chiquette, Quebec’s Regional CBSA Director General.
Airport security discovered the drugs when the travelers’ luggage went through X-ray scanners.
The two suspects are from Jamaica.
The RCMP have taken over the investigation.
In 2013, there were 198 drug seizures at Trudeau airport, with 2,053 seizures in Quebec.
