WINNIPEG – Polo Park opened its 114,000-square-foot redeveloped second level area Wednesday morning, which houses new-to-Winnipeg retailers Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie, as well as the Disney Store, Nine West, Thomas Sabo, Fossil, Journeys, Watch It! and Pandora.
“I like it, it’s something new instead of the same old stuff you see all the time,” said one shopper.
The $49-million investment centres on the former Zellers space on the second level off the mall’s centre court. It was officially unveiled at 10 a.m.
“This is an up and coming city, people don’t understand how exciting all of these new expansions are and how we have to be more forward thinking as a city,” said shopper Gail Herlick.
The area also houses the new H&M store at the mall.
Customers lined up and flooded the expansion to get their hands on hot items, especially at Disney where costumes were flying off the hangers.
“It has been crazy, almost like Boxing day,” said one cashier.
Getting to the expanded mall can be a hassle of its own with roads torn apart during the Polo Park Infrastructure Improvements, which are slated to last until November.
“Oh a lot of construction, it’s pretty crazy but I’ve mapped my route now because I’ve gotten turned around so many times,” said shopper Nikki Bergen.
