WINNIPEG – You don’t have to like classical music to enjoy the way WSO music director Alexander Mickelthwate conducts an interview.
The world-renowned musician, who looks more like a rock star than a symphony orchestra conductor (his wife’s a fashion designer), visited the Global Winnipeg Morning News to promote the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s 67th season.
You might yawn, but the conductor’s waving hands punctuate an enthusiastic German-accented commentary about appearing at Carnegie Hall and working with Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Ros and former Guess Who and BTO rocker Randy Bachman.
