The province is providing an additional $34 million to the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority to cover costs related to this year’s extensive flooding. 

The government says $22 million of that will cover costs incurred by the emergency flood damage reduction program.

The program was brought in early this year to help communities, rural municipalities, businesses and individuals prepare for anticipated spring flooding. 

More money is also going to the watershed authority for emergency flood projects and to repair dams and infrastructure damaged by high water. 

Total funding allocated to the authority for 2011 stands at $76 million. 

The federal government has agreed to pay part of the cost, but the exact contribution from Ottawa isn’t yet known.
