Murder trial sees video of police interview with man accused in 1993 killing

KELOWNA, B.C. – A Kelowna, B.C., man charged with murdering a young woman 18 years ago told a police interviewer he had been called a “chicken” and a “coward” for not talking when he was interrogated by other officers.

Neil Snelson made the remark during a videotaped interview in 2009 right after his arrest for the murder of 19-year-old Jennifer Cusworth in 1993.

The interview, which includes Snelson, his then-wife Brandi, and Sgt. Peter Tewfick, was shown in B.C. Supreme Court on Tuesday as part of Snelson’s trial.

On the tape, Snelson admits that his refusal to speak and not make eye contact with officers might look bad but says he’s just following the advice of his lawyers.

Snelson and his wife can both be seen and heard sobbing throughout the interview.
