MONTREAL — Quebec provincial police have arrested seven suspects during a drug trafficking operation in the Aboriginal community of Gesgapegiag.
Gesgapegiag is a First Nations reserve on the south shore of the Gaspésie.
Six of the seven suspects, three of whom were women, are expected to appear in court in New Carlisle on Wednesday afternoon.
The operation, which involved 50 officers, was investigating a criminal network allegedly involved in the trafficking of drugs in the Gesgapegiag region.
Six raids carried out in Gesgapegiag and Maria have so far led to the seizure of hundreds of pills and prescription drugs, marijuana and a powdery substance that has yet to be identified. Some cash and a rifle that had not been properly stored were also seized.
