Some hikers and visitors to the North Shore mountains are not getting the message about staying safe.
Over the last decade, the number of accidents in the canyon every year has increased from around 40 to over 60.
The latest rescue took place Sunday night when emergency personnel had to rappel from the 50-metre-high suspension bridge.
Fortunately, there have been no fatalities in the canyon so far this year.
North Vancouver Fire and Rescue would like to remind the public to use caution.
“Coming into the canyon with the knowledge that it can be dangerous, and having the proper footwear, and not hiking alone, plus having your cell phone with you if you are hiking is a good idea,” says Asst. Chief Michael Cairns of North Vancouver District Fire and Rescue.
