MONTREAL – A daycare centre in Montreal’s Riviere-des-Prairies district was firebombed overnight Monday, police say, but the damage to the business was minor.

Someone launched a Molotov cocktail at the main window of the daycare, according to Montreal police spokesman Olivier Lapointe.

The window had two panes of glass, he said, and only the outside one was broken. The firebomb fell to the ground, and the flames never reached the inside of the building. No one was inside at the time.

The incident was not reported until early Tuesday, when an employee at the daycare arrived and discovered the damaged window.

Lapointe said the same business was targeted by arsonists last September. The damage in that incident was more severe, he said.

Police have no suspects, but are reviewing footage from security cameras in the area in an attempt to identify the culprits.
