Katrina Effert has been handed a three year suspended sentence for the death of her newborn baby in 2005.
The crown was looking for a four year sentence in the case, while the defense was asking for probation.
Effert has admitted that she gave birth at home when she was 19-years-old.

She strangled her newborn infant son and left the body in yard of her neighbour in Westaskiwin.
She has been convicted twice in the case, of second-degree murder in June 2009 and sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 10 years.
Both convictions have been overturned.
Effert must still serve 16 days in connection with improperly disposing of a body. Sentencing for that conviction will continue on Wednesday, September 15th.
On the conviction for infanticide, Effert will not serve any jail time.
