N.B. NDP leader Dominic Cardy posts ‘serious’ ice bucket challenge video

New Brunswick NDP leader Dominic Cardy has put a self-deprecating spin on the ice bucket challenge.

Cardy, who appears in a video posted to YouTube by his party, talks about the NDP’s “serious commitment” to being serious and how he’s not convinced that dumping water over his head will properly address the issue of ALS awareness.

A minute into the video, Cardy gets splashed — in keeping with the ice bucket challenge custom — but continues to speak seriously.

At the end of the video, the soaking wet Cardy nominates fellow NDP candidate AJ Griffin, Liberal MLA Bill Fraser and Premier David Alward to take the challenge because they “are not quite as committed to the politics of excessive seriousness” as he is.

Alward is reportedly set to take the challenge Friday afternoon.

The New Brunswick provincial election is Sept. 22.
