RCMP are on scene on the Samson Cree First nation after a fatal shooting took place Monday morning.
Officers have confirmed that they are investigating the homicide of a 23-year-old woman.
Investigators were called at 3:00 on Monday morning to the home next door to the one where Ethan Yellowbird, the five-year-old grandson of Samson chief Marvin Yellowbird, was fatally shot on July 11th.
They found a woman in the backyard of the residence suffering from gunshot wounds to her face and upper body.
She was transported to hospital in Wetaskiwin where she passed away.
Police say shots were also fired at another home a few blocks away from the homicide scene in the early morning hours.
Several individuals in custody, but police say they don’t know exactly how they fit into the puzzle.
“We don’t know if they’re suspects in the shooting or the retaliation, which we think is the shots fired at another residence shortly after the first call,” said Const. Perry Cardinal.
Officers are now investigating whether or not there is a connection between the home where the homicide occurred on Monday morning, and the home where Ethan Yellowbird died earlier this summer.
At this point there have been no arrests in the death of the little boy.
The Samson is one of four First Nations that make up Hobbema.
