VANCOUVER – It was a big day for kids taking part in the ‘Dreams Hoop Basketball Academy’ in East Vancouver.

The program provides affordable camps for youth from middle to low income families.

On Saturday they held a tournament to raise money for B.C. Children’s Hospital and they got to play against a team from California, coached by a Hollywood actor.

“Well I’ve always been interested in cross-cultural exchange with the youth,” said Ving Rhames. “I grew up in Harlem in New York, very rough, urban environment, and so what I found is that, if I can have kids travel to different places, countries, areas, it can expand their minds.”

“And so we’re all about trying to teach the kids life, through basketball.”
