A first degree murder trial started at the Kelowna Law Courts Monday, but it will be two more weeks before the jury begins to hear any evidence.
Neil George Snelson is accused in the October 1993 sex-slaying of a 19 year old college student.
The body of Jennifer Cusworth was found in a ditch next to a rural road, she had been bludgeoned to death and 16 years later Snelson was charged with first degree murder.
The trial has been scheduled to take at least six weeks, with the first two weeks set aside for legal arguments on the admissibility of evidence.
Jury selection will occur on September 6th, with prospective jurors first being questioned as to their knowledge of the case and whether they have formed opinions.
Snelson has been in jail since his arrest two years ago and never applied for bail.
