UPDATE: Four people taken to hospital after crash on Highway 97

UPDATE:  Update on the conditions of the crash victims. Vernon RCMP say the 54 year old driver of the pick up truck and his 51 year old wife remain in hospital with non life threatening injuries. Their 14 year old daughter has been released from hospital. The family is from Calgary. The driver of the SUV is a 21 year old Vernon man. He remains in hospital with serious injuries.

Four people have been taken to hospital following a head-on collision on Highway 97 just south of Vernon.

The two-vehicle crash happened at around 6 a.m. when a northbound SUV jumped the median and crashed head-on into a pick up truck that was towing a travel trailer.

There was one occupant in the SUV that person has been taken a hospital with serious injuries.

There were three people in the pick up truck; a husband, wife and daughter. The driver of the truck suffered serious injuries. Investigators had closed off the southbound lanes of Highway 97 at the turn off to Kekuli Bay Park just after the early morning crash.

Traffic is flowing at the accident scene although it is slow going.

The driver of the SUV that jumped the median and caused the crash is from Alberta. The family in the pick up truck, dad mother and 14-year-old teenager are from Alberta. Kelly Hayes
