Man charged in Nackawic fire to undergo psychiatric assessment

WOODSTOCK, N.B. – Edwin Samuel Bradley will undergo a 30-day psychiatric assessment after appearing in Woodstock Provincial Court Thursday afternoon.

The 56-year-old appeared combative as he was lead into the court house. Bradley has been charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample after he allegedly drove a truck into the Nackawic town hall Monday morning, igniting a fire which almost destroyed the building.

It was supposed to be a bail hearing, but after reading evidence submitted by the Crown and RCMP, Judge Brian McLean said he had questions regarding Bradley’s mental fitness.

“First of all, it’s to evaluate if he is okay to stand trial. And the other is to evaluate his criminal responsibility. These are the two questions the court wants the professionals over in Campbellton to answer,” said Angele Normand, Duty Council.

Bradley is also facing charges of breaching conditions of parole.
