Charges laid after semi tire crashes through Calgary neighbourhood

CALGARY- A scary incident that saw a loose semi tire crash through three backyards in Coventry Hills has resulted in charges being laid.

On Thursday, a huge tire flew off a truck driving on Stoney Trail, and bowled through a number of fences and a trampoline before coming to a stop. It narrowly missed people sitting in their yards, including a mother and baby.

Investigators managed to track down the truck driver.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“The missing tire came from the rear of his trailer,” says Cst. Peter Healy from the Calgary Police Service. “He wasn’t aware the tire was missing until he pulled into Balzac. Commercial vehicle enforcement then issued a summons for an unsafe vehicle to this driver.”

Those who live in the area are now calling for a concrete barrier to be built, to prevent a similar incident.
