16-year-old charged with murder in stabbing death

CALGARY- A 16-year-old has officially been charged with second-degree murder, after a man was stabbed outside of Marlborough Mall.

45-year-old Gabriel Okeynan passed away on June 24, four days after being attacked at the northeast mall.

Police arrested a 16-year-old shortly after the stabbing and charged him with robbery. On Thursday, second-degree murder charges were laid against him.

On June 25, police arrested a 13-year-old in connection with the case. He also faces second-degree murder charges.

Both teens are in custody, but neither of them can be named due to their ages.

Investigators believe the stabbing was a result of a robbery gone bad, and that Okeynan was randomly targeted.
