EDMONTON – Katarina Roxon of Stephenville, N.L., capped a solid performance by the Canadian team at the Pan Pacific Para Swimming Championships on Sunday with a gold medal in the women’s 100-metre breaststroke
Roxon, 18, took the gold in the S8 disability category in one minute 27.02 seconds.
Summer Mortimer of Ancaster, Ont., Aurelie Rivard of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., and Megyn Coughlan of Ottawa were second, third and fourth respectively in the S10 race.
Valerie Drapeau of Montreal and Cynthia Berringer of Mississauga, Ont., were second and third in the S5; Brianna Nelson of Victoria and Sarah Mehain of Vernon, B.C., were second and third in the S7; Valerie Grand’Maison of Montreal and Rhea Schmidt of Winnipeg second and fifth in the S13; Amber Thomas of Drayton Valley, Alta., was second in the S11and Kirsti Kasko of Okotoks, Alta., and Justine Morrier of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu were third and sixth in the S14.
In Sunday’s relays, Canada collected silver medals in the women’s 4×50 and 4×100 freestyle and men’s 4×100 freestyle.
Australia finished first in the medal standings with 35 gold, 25 silver and 19 bronze. Canada ranked third in total medals with 12 gold, 24 silver and 26 bronze.
