Two people killed in Wetaskiwin collision

EDMONTON – A man and a woman died Tuesday morning after the vehicle they were in collided with a gravel truck in Wetaskiwin.

Police believe a gravel truck turned across the path of a Chrysler Intrepid. The driver of the Chrysler tried to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful.

The car suffered extreme damage in the crash, trapping two people inside.

The Jaws of Life were used to get the pair out of the vehicle, but both the 65-year-old male driver and the 63-year-old female passenger died as a result of their injuries. Both were from Nanaimo, B.C.

The driver of the gravel truck was not injured.

Wetaskiwin RCMP and the Red Deer Collision Re-constructionist unit is investigating the crash.

No charges have been laid at this time.
